Pupils from Class II and III recently spent a day planting saplings with Treesponsibility. The children were given a short talk on the importance of tree planting from a global perspective (Global warming) and a local perspective (controlling water flow/avoiding floods) and a general human perspective (absorbing carbon dioxide and producing oxygen). They learned how to plant trees and give them protection until they become established. They also learned about what the trees will be used for (coppicing for building structures on the adjoining allotments).
Treesponsibility is a Calderdale-based organisation which aims to help educate people about the need for action on climate change, and to involve local communities in tree-planting projects to improve our local environment and biodiversity for the benefit of local people and future generations.
