The Calder Valley Steiner School Baby Group is designed specifically for babies from birth to one.
Following Steiner’s principles in looking after the very young child we also introduce the work of Emmi Pikler for the Baby Group. The aim is to show parents the value of deep, respectful care in the physical relationship between the adult and the child. We aim to show how we care give “with” the child, rather than “to”. We also aim to give parents the confidence to trust in their child’s own natural ability. We never put a child into a position he or she cannot achieve on their own. Building your child’s awareness of themselves and their environment is the foundation upon which all their further development is built. We show the importance of free play and all the child learns from free movement.
The group is a warm, supportive space for new parents to come and learn together just how incredible your baby is, and see all that he can achieve if given the freedom to develop in his own time. The group meets at Machpelah on Wednesday mornings from 10am until 11.15. The morning is gently structured with time for tea and cake on arrival when we chat and get to know one another. We then move to the floor where we observe the children in their free movement. The morning ends with a few seasonal songs and rhymes.
The first session will be this Wednesday, February 27th. The cost is £5.00 per session. Please contact Sally, The Parent and Child Group Leader on 07904 052 816.
